1 December 2020 / Introducing:
Spectacular soaps by Charlie Bolton
Mr Soap is a small, independent business based in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, making hand crafted and hand cut soaps and bath products. Everything is made from scratch so there are no nasties included, only high quality, ethical ingredients.
I’m originally from a small village called Whalley, which is North of Manchester but I’ve lived in the Northern Quarter for the past four years. I create all my products in small batches from my kitchen at home. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a studio next year, to create all of my products in!
When I was 16 I came across a YouTube video about soap making. I’ve always been creative so it caught my interest and after hours and hours of research and watching videos, I decided to order the ingredients and equipment needed.
Best selling soaps:
1. Espresso Yourself
2. Jasmine & Green Tea
3. Oatmeal, Milk & Honey
That week I ended up making my first loaf of soap and my new hobby just progressed from there! I used to sell online and at craft fairs and farmers markets but education and other pursuits pushed my little soap business to the sidelines. Lockdown 2020 has given me the opportunity to start again!
I was furloughed from April until October from my part-time job. I had been saying for years to friends and family that I wanted to to start soap making again but could never find the time. I’m so glad I’ve had lots of free time on my hands, to do something that gives me so much joy and fulfilment.
I’m currently stocked at Live like the Boy in Colne, Northern Lights in Ancoats, FEED General Store in Heaton Chapel and all The Store Group shops including Ancoats General Store.
I have three soaps that are my best-sellers. The first is ‘Espresso Yourself’ which is a coffee scrub soap, created out of recycled coffee grounds and real coffee. Also, ‘Jasmine & Green Tea’ which contains real green tea. And finally my ‘Oatmeal, Milk & Honey’ which contains ground oats, Ancoats honey and oat milk.

I’m really happy with how things are going but next year I would love to move my business into a studio. If anyone knows of any places around the city centre, please get in touch.
I’ve been lucky enough to recently complete an order for 900 bars of soap for Christian Aid! I’m currently working on an order of 300 bars of soap for New Maker Yards in Salford. I also have an order for a gift box company called SimplyCity. My Christmas collection is being released on Saturday 5th December too! I’m busy, but very happy with how everything is progressing and growing. Onwards and upwards!
